“The Blue Wave”, only Turkish film at the AFI Fest 2014, directed by Zeynep Dadak and Merve Kayan

Zeynep Dadak and Merve Kayan, writers/directors of ‘The Blue Wave’, perfectly captures the life of high school teenagers who are trying to figure out what to do after graduation from high school. Deniz (Ayris Alptekin) and her friends have much to tell each other after staying apart for the whole summer. Film mostly based on these conversions of 4 teenage girls whether it’s about their boyfriends or their university plans in the future. Deniz likes a senior boy, Kaya (Barış Hacıhan) but also kinda likes her teacher and trying to figure out how to get out of this situation while dealing with a big outage of electricity, gas and water. Film has almost no action but regardless, they did a perfect job showing us a simple life of teenagers in Turkey.
